Soroco boys basketball has rough start to week
Rams lose to Steamboat JV, Moffat County JV
December 9, 2010
Oak Creek — The Soroco High School boys basketball team dropped a pair of games Monday and Tuesday.
The Rams lost, 45-33, to the Steamboat Springs junior varsity squad and 44-40 to the Moffat County junior varsity team.
"We're struggling offensively a little bit," Rams coach Andy Johnson said. "There are two reasons to that. One, those were two pretty good defensive teams we played the last two days. No. 2, we're not shooting the ball real well."
Against Moffat on Tuesday, Soroco had a number of chances to pick up the win. But the Rams (1-2) shot 4-of-10 from the free throw line, including 1-of-4 in the fourth quarter.
"We had opportunities to tie or possibly take the lead, and we turned it over," Johnson said. "Those are things we learn from. But we put ourselves in a position to win."
Against Steamboat, Michael Rossi led the way with eight points. Nic Paxton added seven, and Leif Carlson chipped in six.
Paxton led the way against Moffat with 12 points. Carlson added 11, and Rossi had nine.
The Soroco boys next play at 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at Gilpin County.
