March 21, 1996
Steamboat Springs — A snowmobiling accident claimed the life of an unidentified male in North Routt County Wednesday evening.
Rescue crews administered CPR, according to a Search & Rescue spokesperson, but were unsuccessful. The snowmobiler reportedly suffered head injuries.
At 5:50 p.m. a flight for life helicopter from St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver was called to a remote landing zone in a snow covered meadow roughly northwest of Hahn's Peak Village.
However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the helicopter returned to Denver before reaching the site. The location is in the area of Steamboat Lake State Park, about 25 miles northwest of Steamboat Springs.
Responding to the scene were members of the Clark and Steamboat ambulance crews along with eight members of Routt County Search and Rescue.
Additional details were not available at press time.
