Steamboat Springs — A Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. lift mechanic was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center Wednesday afternoon after falling about 20 feet while working on the Sunshine Express lift at the Steamboat Ski Area.
Travis Wilkinson of Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue said the unidentified worker suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Ski Corp. spokesman Mike Lane said two lift mechanics were doing routine tower maintenance at about 3 p.m. A malfunction occurred causing their work chair to fall approximately 20 feet to the ground.
The second lift mechanic involved in the accident was evaluated by emergency responders but was not transported to the hospital, Lane said, adding the incident is under investigation.
The ski area closed for the season April 10.
