Wall, speaking by cell phone from the hospital today, said he was "just really sick" and wanted to get to the Denver hospital. He declined to say which hospital he was taken to.

His wife, Jenny Wall, said her husband is recovering and the couple intends to return to Steamboat Springs on Friday.

Wall, a Democrat, is up for re-election this year and is in a heated contest with Republican Garrett Wiggins. Wall was scheduled to appear tonight at a candidate forum. Wiggins is expected to attend the forum, which will start with a 5 p.m. social hour at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. The candidates are scheduled to speak starting at 5:45 p.m.
