Senior citizens driving class is Nov. 26 at Steamboat Springs Community Center
November 9, 2012
Steamboat Springs — Senior citizens who want to become safer behind the steering wheel of their vehicle and save on insurance rates can take a special driving course from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 26 in the American Legion room at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.
The fee for the four-hour course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. The AARP is offering the class for free to military veterans and their dependents who register online this month, according to local organizer Bud Romberg.
The class teaches strategies for dealing with age-related changes and has shown over a period of years a statistically valid reduction in the numbers of crashes and injuries among those who have taken the class, Romberg said.
State law requires insurance companies to extend discounted rates for a period of three years to drivers who have taken the class.
