Scott Abell: Thank you, donors

My family first visited Steamboat Springs in summer 1998. Upon arriving downtown, one of the first things we noticed were the beautiful flower baskets hanging along the sidewalks and on the bridges crossing the Yampa River. I can still hear my wife exclaiming how clean everything looked, and the flowers were lovely.

By the time we left town a week later, we had put a deposit down on a residence and now spend four months each year here.

It’s the people of Steamboat Springs that make the town what it is today, whether it’s supporting the Winter Sports Club, Yampa Valley Medical Center or keeping flower baskets downtown. Once again, we were not disappointed at the speed with which the money was raised to save the flowers. I know I speak for many to thank each and every donor, large and small, who contributed to keeping downtown beautiful.

With the tight budget situation facing our community, we need to find a permanent solution to keep downtown blooming, and with enough time I know we will. It is, however, gratifying to know that when we need help in a hurry, the citizens of this town know what is important.
