— One U.S. freestyle skier punched his ticket Wednesday to the Olympics, and a whole bunch more showed they could be worthy while competing in a freestyle World Cup moguls event at Whiteface Mountain resort in New York.

Patrick Deneen, who trained with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club briefly, was named to the men’s U.S. Olympic team along with Bradley Wilson.

Patrick Deneen, who trained for several years with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, was second, earning his second podium of the season and thus a spot on the team.

Canada’s Alex Bilodeau was the day’s champ while the United States packed two more into the top four, Bradley Wilson at No. 3 and Bryon Wilson at No. 4.

Sho Kashima was eighth for the United States, Steamboat’s Jeremy Cota was 10th and Joseph Discoe was 12th.

The women’s side included more high-placing Americans with ties to Steamboat.

Vail’s Heidi Kloser was second. World Cup leader Hannah Kearney was third, and Steamboater Sophia Schwartz placed fourth in just her third World Cup start, adding that top-five finish to two seventh-place showings last week in Deer Valley, Utah.

Steamboat was well represented again by Eliza Outtrim, who was sixth. U.S. skier Keaton McCargo was 10th, and Heather McPhie was 15th.
