Lauryn Bruggink, wrestling
Steamboat Springs — 2012 graduate of Soroco High School, sophomore at Wayland Baptist University
Late last month, Bruggink earned an Academic All-American Scholastic award for her achievements in the classroom, which included a 3.89 cumulative GPA. She also helped guide her team to a fifth-place finish in the Women's College Wrestling Association 2014 National Tournament. At the tournament, Bruggink scored a pin and a decision win. She also scored points for her team's fourth-place finish in Wayland Baptist's Mat Mayhem 2014 NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals with a decision win against Lindenwood.
Penn Lukens, lacrosse
2013 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at Colorado
Lukens, a freshman on defense, saw his first action of the season since making the team in the fall in the Buffaloes' opening scrimmage at Colorado Mesa on Saturday. Colorado's season-opener is Feb. 21 against Chapman in Palm Desert, Calif. The team also will play Boston College in Palm Desert on Feb. 23 before its first home contest against Texas on Feb. 28.
Luci Franklin, swimming
2012 graduate of The Lowell Whiteman School, sophomore at Saint Michael's College
At the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, Franklin's best showings came in the relay events. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Franklin's team took sixth place, narrowly missing a Saint Michael's College record time. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team grabbed seventh place. Franklin missed the finals in the 200 IM, and 100-yard backstroke, placing 24th and 18th, respectively.
