Roundup of Routt County prep sports games this weekend
October 3, 2012
■ 7 p.m. Friday: Hayden (4-1) vs. West Grand (2-3)
West Grand's record is a bit deceiving. The Mustangs three losses have come against opponents with a 13-2 record, including two losses against top 10 teams. Hayden has proven its worth in 8-man, running away from opponents. West Grand coach Chris Brown is certain to have a good game plan coming in.
■ 6 p.m. Friday: Hayden (3-9) at Plateau Valley (4-7)
■ Noon Saturday: Hayden at Hotchkiss (4-9)
■ 6 p.m Saturday: Hayden vs. Paonia (14-1) at Hotchkiss
It's a busy weekend for Hayden with three games in two days. The Tigers have shown flashes of playing well and should have a good shot at picking up two wins this weekend.
■ 6 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat (6-4) at Battle Mountain (10-0)
■ 11 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat vs. Palisade (5-4)
Revenge week? Sort of. Steamboat lost to Battle Mountain and Palisade earlier in the season. The Huskies, Class 4A's No. 2 team, will be a tall task. It will be Saturday's game, however, that will prove monumental. Steamboat is a half game ahead of Palisade in the league standings for third place. A win gives Steamboat the upper hand on securing a playoff spot.
■ 7 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (2-3) at Battle Mountain (0-5)
Steamboat legitimately has a chance to put together its first winning streak in three years. The Sailors should be the favorites on paper, having beaten two of the teams the Huskies have lost to. The key will be getting an early lead and taking away any emotional momentum Battle Mountain has from its homecoming.
■ 10:45 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat at Aspen
With just a couple of weeks until the regional meet, the cross-country team had has one final hard week. The team hasn't seen a lot of its regional competition; that likely will come Oct. 11 in Rifle. The region isn't as strong as it has been, and Steamboat has rapidly been cutting time.
■ 3 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat (7-7) at Summit (3-8)
It's a critical bounce back game for the Sailors. After losing Tuesday in straight sets to Battle Mountain, the team needs a win against Summit to keep its district hopes alive.
■ 7 p.m. Friday: Soroco (3-2) vs. South Park (2-3)
After two demoralizing losses, the Rams look to get back on track. After scoring 183 points in its first three games, Soroco has scored 13 in its past two. This is a must-win game if the Rams want to be one of the four teams to make the cross conference game.
■ 6:30 p.m. Thursday: Soroco (3-9) vs. Vail Mountain (6-3)
■ 6:30 p.m. Friday: Soroco at North Park (5-6)
Soroco finally has started to display some consistency with a couple of wins. The Rams need another big weekend as the season starts to come to a close.
