Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club’s season tees off Friday
April 24, 2012
Steamboat Springs — The mild winter certainly has local golfers smiling. With Steamboat Golf Club already operating, Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club this week will become the city's second course to open to the public.
Rollingstone Ranch is scheduled to open all 18 holes Friday.
"It's the earliest we've opened since I got here in 2005," Director of Golf Brian Thorne said. "The course is in really good shape. For this time of year, it's in really good shape."
Last year, the course didn't open until May 27, and even then it was only the front nine.
Thorne said the light winter was good for the course. He also said there was limited vole and elk damage.
Starting Friday, preseason rates will be in effect. For locals, it will be $75 for 18 holes before 2 p.m. and $65 after. A cart is included. There also is the Troon Family Golf Deal, which is $50 for nine holes and a cart after 3 p.m. Children 15 and younger play for free with a paying adult.
Despite the course opening, Rollingstone Ranch's driving range will remain closed. Thorne said the range is being renovated; an opening isn't scheduled.
The course currently is accepting tee times, and the pro shop will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Thursday. On Friday the pro shop will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For a tee time or more information, call 970-879-1391.
"We're ready for gold," Thorne said. "Everyone here is ready for summer."
With Rollingstone's opening, Haymaker Golf Course will be Steamboat's only public course not open. Haymaker officials previously have said the course would open May 1.
