ReTree Steamboat could receive $5,000 grant from Alpine Initiative contest

Steamboat Springs resident Kym Rudnick plants a baby pine tree Saturday morning at Howelsen Hill as part of ReTree Steamboat 2012.

— The Yampa Valley Sustainability Council’s ReTree Steamboat program to replace trees devastated by the mountain pine beetle is in the running for a $5,000 grant from Alpine Initiatives.

Alpine Initiatives’ Grass Root Grants program, which benefits projects in North America, has selected six finalists for the grant. After liking the Alpine Initiatives Facebook page, those interested can vote for the project of their choice.

The three projects that receive the most votes will each receive a $5,000 grant. A list of the finalists is available on the Alpine Initiatives website.
