Steamboat Springs — Registration for the second annual Steamboat Stinger mountain bike race opens at noon Wednesday.
The event saw incredible participation last year and is expected to sell out again this year.
Thanks to the success of last year, there also is a trail marathon and half-marathon planned for the day after the bike race.
Registration for both events is at http://www.prerace.com. The mountain bike race is Aug. 11, and the run is Aug. 12.
The cost is $75 for the solo mountain bike race and $140 for the duo category. It's $65 for the marathon and $45 for the half-marathon.
The mountain bike race features multiple solo divisions, as well as duo divisions for men, women and coed teams.
A large part of the mountain bike course's appeal is that 90 percent of the course is on singletrack. The 50-mile ride includes two laps on Emerald Mountain trails.
The marathon and half-marathon courses haven't been determined but likely will follow a similar path as the bike race.
Those interested are encouraged to be ready for the noon registration. Last year, the event sold out.
Similar endurance mountain bike races such as the Gunnison Growler, Park City Point to Point and Breckenridge Firecracker have sold out in minutes.
"With a lot of races being similar, they've been selling out quick," Race Director Colin Osborn said. "People should have their credit cards out, ready at 11:59 a.m."
The field will be limited to 400 entrants in the mountain bike and running races. An entrant in the bike race is considered a team or an individual. Osborn said they want to limit it to 400 people on course at once.
"We couldn't have asked for better response last year," Osborn said. "Everyone said the course was great. It was super fun."
