Red flag warning in effect Sunday across Routt County
June 23, 2012
Steamboat Springs — The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a red flag warning for Routt County that is in effect from 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday.
The warning is the result of forecast dry thunderstorms, low relative humidity, high temperatures and sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts as fast as 40 mph. The National Weather Service cautioned on its website that the conditions would make fires "difficult to control with very high rates of spread possible."
Steamboat's high Sunday is forecast to reach 93 degrees with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, which are expected to bring lightning but very little moisture to the area.
Highs in the 90s are expected to continue through the middle of the week.
