Rain or shine the Rubber Ducky Race runs

Rain showers Saturday morning didn’t deter the hopeful children and their parents as they took shelter under the 13th Street bridge to watch the rubber duckies drift downstream on the Yampa River.

The Rubber Ducky Race for Hospice saw seven trash cans full of rubber duckies dumped from the Fifth Street Bridge into the water to race to the 13th Street Bridge. Along the way, children and adults kept their ducks moving with rakes, ski poles, hockey sticks and tree branches.

All proceeds benefit Northwest Colorado Health’s hospice program, which provides services to anyone who needs end-of-life care, regardless of their ability to pay. Volunteers are needed to catch duckies at the finish line and retrieve stuck ducks from the river after the race.

Ticket holders of the winning ducks win a total of $3,000 in cash prizes, including a $1,000 grand prize. Entrants need not to be present to win.
