Prep sports briefs: Soroco football team rolls South Park
October 5, 2012
Steamboat Springs — Things got back to normal for the Soroco High School football team.
After a pair of losses, Soroco rebounded with a 48-6 win against South Park on Friday.
The Rams, now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in league play, ran out to a 41-0 halftime lead.
"I was pleased," Soroco coach David Bruner said. "We spread the ball out and were a lot more focused in practice this week."
Senior quarterback Nic Paxton threw the ball six times for 80 yards and had 290 yards rushing on just 16 carries. Ian Palyo had eight carries for 98 yards.
Defensive ends Micah Gibbons and Ryan Jeep combined for 25 tackles.
"The guys were really focused this week," Bruner said. "I told them it was a must-win game. They were pinned against the wall. We have to play that way the rest of the year."
Soroco next plays at 7 p.m. Friday at Rangely.
Hayden volleyball falls at Plateau Valley
The Hayden High School girls volleyball team lost, 3-1, at Plateau Valley on Friday.
"I don't know what the issue is," coach Christene Planansky said. "We had moments of greatness and moments of, ‘What are you doing?’"
Saturday begins a long day for the Tigers. Hayden (3-10) plays at noon against Hotchkiss and 6 p.m. against Paonia. Both games are in Hotchkiss.
"We need a good night’s sleep and to get a good breakfast in," Planansky said.
