Police: No charges to be filed in Keith Dady death
March 5, 2010
Steamboat Springs — Steamboat police announced Thursday that no charges will be filed against Josh Burns after a scuffle led to the death of his friend Keith Dady.
Dady died Dec. 9 in a Denver hospital after fighting with Burns on Dec. 4. The two were described as longtime friends.
Dady reportedly burst into Burns' room in their shared condo on Columbine Drive and attacked Burns. Burns told police he threw Dady off of him. The way Dady landed — upside down leaning against a bookcase — is thought to have blocked the flow of oxygen and caused asphyxiation. Dady reportedly had been drinking that night.
Steamboat Springs Police Department Detective Nick Bosick said the decision to not file charges against Burns was reached by police and the 14th Judicial District Attorney's Office after a joint review of the case.
"He acted in self defense, which people have a right to do, and unfortunately, that resulted in the death of his friend, Mr. Dady," Bosick said.
