Kelly Labor named Player of Year for second time

Six Steamboat Springs soccer players have been selected to one of two Western Slope All-League teams.

Lindsay Ellis, a senior at Soroco High School, and juniors Kelly Labor, Casey Garth, Ann Barney and Kirsten Ryan were selected to the first team, and junior Jessie Dover was an honorable mention All-League selection.

League coaches vote for the two teams, and players aren’t selected by position.

For the second consecutive season, Labor also was selected as league Player of the Year after ending the year with 30 goals for the Sailors.

Steamboat finished the season 16-1 overall and won the Western Slope League championship with an undefeated record. The Sailors’ 15-0 regular season earned them a No. 5 seed in the postseason tournament.

Steamboat defeated Wide–field in the opening round but lost to Greeley Central in the second round. Cheyenne Mountain went on to win the Class 4A title earlier this week.

The All-State selections won’t be announced for several weeks, coach Rob Bohlmann said. The selection meeting usually is held the weekend after the championship, but the Memorial Day holiday forced the meeting back.
