PJ Howe: ‘No’ on 66
November 1, 2013
It astounds me to read from so many people that this measure being placed in front of us is so crucial to the survival of our current school system. How any rational-thinking adult could conclude that this $1 billion per year is going to go to the benefit of the children is beyond me. This bill is about one thing and one thing only: money, and not for the children. There are no controls of how this money will be spent, and there are no controls of who gets to spend the money. If this bill passes, I will most definitely be running for a school board position. Think of the freedom you would have with $1 billion in your pocket.
I went to high school in the '80s in Denver. We had one principal and one vice principal for 400 kids in the graduating class. Fast forward to 2011 when my niece graduated from the same school with 440 kids. Did they have one principal and one vice principal? No! They had an executive director (someone please explain this), a principal and seven vice principals. Voting for 66 means we all get a fervent and well-deserved political bureaucracy in our schools. If you want to make a change, start teaching the kids while they are in the school instead of having them watch movies all the time.
