Paul Bonnifield: Welfare for the well-to-do is not OK

According to today’s Steamboat Today, “the GOP poses families making more than $1 million a year would get tax cuts averaging about $50,000 …” My gross annual income including pension and investments is approximately $30,000. My net income after taxes is lower, and I must pay all my expenses including co-pay health insurance.

I understand most ranking business officials earn $250,000 per year or more and receive excellent health insurance as part of the compensation package. They already have better health insurance than I can afford. Yet, the top end will receive twice as much free money than I make in a year.

Welfare for the poor I’m willing to go along with, but “big time” welfare for the well-to-do and very wealthy is not my idea of a good idea.
