On the Market: Rio Grande to close from Monday to Wednesday

Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant will close from Monday to Wednesday for renovations, according to a news release.

When the restaurant reopens Thursday, it will welcome new General Manager Wes Boyd and new Kitchen Manager Jon Demel. Boyd comes to Steamboat from Fort Collins, where he had led restaurants for more than nine years. He has more than 18 years of restaurant experience and holds a Master of Business Administration from Colorado State University, according to the release. Demel is culinary trained and has more than a decade of experience in leading kitchens in Steamboat and on the Front Range. His background includes experience as executive chef at Sheraton Steamboat Resort and Inverness Hotel and Conference Center in Englewood, according to the release.

Former General Manager Carmen Welch will remain as part of Rio's Steamboat leadership team, according to the release.

Haymaker Golf Course honored for sustainability efforts

Haymaker Golf Course has been awarded gold certification through the Sustainable Business Program, according to a news release.

"We are excited to receive this recognition," course Superintendent Bill Whelihan said. "We have recently embarked upon an energy reduction initiative including changing our light bulbs to efficient ones and installing energy-efficient heating systems."

Sustainability work at the course also includes preservation of wetland habitats, pest management that minimizes herbicides and fertilizer use, water quality protection and monitoring, water conservation and reduced irrigation programs, recycling and energy reduction practices, according to the release.
