On the Market: Casey’s Pond site gets approval for rezoning
January 30, 2011
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs Planning Commission unanimously approved two measures Thursday night to change the land-use designation for the 5.52-acre site of the Casey's Pond Subdivision. The site where Casey's Pond Senior Living has proposed to build a senior citizens residential complex borders Walton Creek Road close to the intersection of U.S. Highway 40. It is accessed off Walton Creek Road by a new extension of Owl Hoot Trail and the development lies west of Owl Hoot.
The project would include apartment residences, 60 skilled nursing beds that would replace the current Doak Walker Care Center as well as assisted living units and a memory care center that is a new service in the region.
The actions taken by Planning Commission last week were preliminary to upcoming public hearings on a development permit for the project.
Specifically, the Planning Commission agreed to a minor amendment to the Steamboat Springs Area Community Plan to change the land-use designation for the subdivision from resort residential to neighborhood residential-medium density. In a separate vote, the Planning Commission also changed the zoning on the parcel from resort residential-low density to multi-family high density.
Senior care center also is planned in Eagle area
At the same time plans for a new continuous care senior neighborhood are working through city planning in Steamboat, a similar project is being contemplated in the Vail Valley.
The Vail Daily newspaper reported Jan. 18 that an architectural/design team has been selected for a project in west Eagle.
The Eagle County Housing Department and Augustana Care Corp. have selected the Nelson-Tremain Partnership in association with Snowdon & Hopkins Architects of the Vail Valley to design the facility.
Eagle County, in partnership with Augustana Care, is planning to construct a senior facility on the county's former road and bridge property and the former U.S. Forest Service horse pasture parcel in west Eagle. County staff and Augustana Care are hosting focus groups with stakeholders and interested citizens to help shape plans for the facility.
