Charles P. Scearce Jr.
December 30, 2012
Charles P. Scearce Jr., 42, of Rapid City, S.D., died Dec. 21, 2012, as a result of a logging accident.
Chuck grew up in Missouri, Texas, Tennessee and Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University. He then made his way west and settled in Steamboat Springs for several years.
His work took him to Rapid City, where he fell in love with Sarah, Leif and Hannah Gerbing. Together, they brought Miss Alivia Scearce into the world. Nothing made his blue eyes shine more brightly than when he was with Alivia.
Chuck loved anything that was outside: rocks, mountains, lakes, rivers and creepy-crawly creatures. They all were part of what made Chuck the happiest. He loved to snow ski, hike and climb.
Alivia wants to say, “I really love my daddy, and he will always be with me in my heart. I will do everything I can to make my daddy proud of me as I grow up as his daughter, knowing I can be anything I want to be.”
Chuck was a son, father, brother, cousin and friend. He will be desperately missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Survivors include his dad, Charles Scearce; stepmom, Michelle; mom, Becky Crocker; stepdad, Darrell Crocker; best friend, Sarah Gerbing; daughters Alivia Scearce and Hannah Gerbing; son Leif Gerbing; brothers and sisters Andrew Scearce, Jason Kuttner, Chris Crocker, Michael Crocker, Mike and Rhonda Cunningham, Matt and Delisa Cunningham and Bryan and Sarah Cranton; Jason and Andrew’s mother, Rosana Scearce, of Houston; and a multitude of friends.
A celebration of life was Dec. 24 at the Chapel of Tranquility at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Service. A prayer service followed at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Kent Bryant officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alivia Scearce trust fund at the Black Hills Federal Credit Union in Rapid City.
