Oak Creek under water restrictions after lightning strikes plant
August 27, 2013
Steamboat Springs — The Oak Creek water plant was struck by lightning Friday, and the town remains under water restrictions as repairs are made.
According to an email from Town Administrator Mary Alice Page-Allen, the town’s water system is being operated manually because the lightning strike affected the electronic controls.
“Technicians and town staff have been on-site continuously since the strike, and every effort is being made to get the system up and running in normal fashion,” Page-Allen wrote.
Mandatory restrictions are in place for Oak Creek water users until the system returns to normal operation.
“All outside watering is banned except for emergency services deemed necessary by law enforcement and/or the Oak Creek Fire Protection District,” Page-Allen wrote.
