Bobby Rauch is sworn in Dec. 12 as Oak Creek's chief of police. Rauch was hired as an officer for the town in September 2012.

— Oak Creek police officer Bobby Rauch was sworn in as the town's new chief Dec. 12.

Rauch was hired as an officer in September 2012 as part of Oak Creek's move to revive its police department.

When he was sworn in, Rauch said he had worked in detentions in Jefferson County and lived in Maryland before that.

Ed Corriveau also joined Oak Creek's department from Hayden at about the same time as Rauch but left the town's force in November.

Rauch said Tuesday that the department is advertising for the position vacated by Corriveau. Part-time Oak Creek police officer Eileen Rossi currently is out of the area.

So for now, Rauch is a department of one.

Not much has changed along with his new title, Rauch said, except for some more paperwork.

"It's great down here," he said.

"We're really quite happy that Bobby has agreed to take on the chief position," Town Administrator Mary Alice Page-Allen said. "We think he's a huge asset to the community."

There have been ups and downs in the history of Oak Creek's police department since Reggie Mayes stepped down in 1999 after 17 years as chief.

"This (Rauch’s hiring as chief) is one of those ups," Page-Allen said.

It's not "Chief Rauch," she said, it's Bobby. "And I think that says a lot."
