Oak Creek man pleads guilty to assault

Alexis DeLaCruz

A 22-year-old Oak Creek man pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor third-degree assault in Routt County Court.

Wayne Michael Bush was arrested in December on suspicion of assaulting his mother, breaking several windows in her home and attempting to flee from police custody.

The criminal mischief and resisting arrest charges Bush was facing were dismissed as part of a plea agreement reached with the District Attorney’s Office, as was a second assault case Bush was facing involving other Oak Creek residents.

As part of the agreement, Bush will be sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and 30 days in jail. County Judge James Garrecht gave Bush a 30-day jail credit because he served that time at a Pueblo facility on other charges while Bush’s Routt County charges were pending. Bush also was ordered to pay more than $200 in fees.

Deputy District Attorney Tammy Jenson told Garrecht that Bush’s mother agreed to the stipulations of the plea agreement and that the victims in the other assault case did not want to press charges.
