O. George Specht Jr. (1920-2006)

Longtime Steamboat Springs resident O. George Specht Jr. died Oct. 21, 2006. He was 86.

He was born March 19, 1920, in Superior, Wis.

George Specht always had a smile on his face. He loved life and he loved people. George was the happiest man around, and he will always be remembered for the way he made other people feel.

George graduated in 1943 from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in metallurgical engineering.

He landed and held key sales positions in Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and New York.

George even commuted to Houston for several years from his beloved Steamboat Springs, his home for the past 35 years.

A full lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, George always said he was thankful he survived the war. He enjoyed golf, skiing on Mount Werner, sailing, curling and ice hockey.

George was preceded in death by his two younger brothers, Joseph Specht and Bobby Specht.

George is survived by his wife of 64 years, June B. Specht; three children, Timothy Specht, Polly Specht Ramiah and Jennifer Specht Thomsen; and grandchildren, Daniel, Duke, Erik and Heidi.

A memorial in honor of George was held Oct. 28, 2006, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Steamboat Springs.
