No. 2 Lewis-Palmer ends Steamboat hockey’s season
February 22, 2014
Steamboat Springs — It wasn't the state playoffs run the Steamboat Springs High School hockey team was looking for, but Sailors coach Brent Tollar said one thing remained constant in his team's 6-2 loss to No. 2 Lewis-Palmer on Friday.
His Sailors just wouldn't quit.
Steamboat forced a 0-0 tie after the first period behind steady play from goalie Trent Trask, but things got a bit out of hand in the second period.
Lewis-Palmer made quick work in the final two periods, outscoring Steamboat, 3-1, in each of them to advance to the tournament's second round.
"We've got 20 players and 10 are seniors, so Friday was the final game for a lot of them," Tollar said. "It was tough. The locker room was sad and they were bummed, but in true fashion to how great these kids are, they totally stuck up for each other. We started together and finished that way, too."
The Sailors' two goals came from Matt Hale and captain Jackson Perry. Trask finished with 29 saves.
Steamboat closed out the season with an 11-7 record.
