Safety concerns prompt Huck Finn cancellation

Because of high water and unsafe conditions along Dry Creek, the town of Hayden and Division of Wildlife have canceled the Huck Finn Day fishing festival for children today.

If possible, the event will be rescheduled.

Figure skating club’s meeting is June 11

Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club’s general membership meeting and election is at 11 a.m. June 11 at Howelsen Ice Arena. Nominations will be held, followed by elections for three positions on the Board of Directors.

SSFSC is seeking members with leadership skills to volunteer for board positions. The meeting will continue with information and registration for summer skating, and an update about the 2005-06 skating season. All those interested are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

SSFSC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of Steamboat’s artistic athletes. Call 879-7785.

Hospice celebration is June 27 and 28

The 12th annual Hospice Celebration is June 27 and 28. The event includes a Celebration of Life Dinner beginning at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort Hotel. Guitarist Brent Rowan will perform after dinner. On June 28, Horizons will host a golf tournament at 10 a.m at Catamount Ranch and Club.

Tickets are $200 for the golf tournament, which includes dinner. Individuals wanting to attend the dinner only can purchase tickets for $60 a person or $100 a couple. Proceeds benefit hospice care in the Yampa Valley provided by Hospice Services of NW Colorado.

Methodist church to host Bible vacation school

The United Methodist Church will host Vacation Bible School from 1 to 7 p.m. June 12 at the Circle G Ranch. There is no charge for the day-long event, which includes stories, crafts, games, music and dinner.

Board of Realtors seeks golfers, donated items

The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors is seeking golfers and donated items for its scholarship dinner, auction and tournament June 14 and 15. The dinner and auction are at 6 p.m. June 14 at Three Peaks Grill. The golf tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. June 15 at the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Club. Proceeds will benefit the 2006 college scholarship program.

Ladies golf league hosting tournament June 14

The Steamboat Ladies Golf League will host the Howdy Partner Golf Tournament at 9 a.m. June 14 at the Steamboat Golf Club. The cost is $50 a person and includes a continental breakfast before the event and lunch afterward at the Steamboat Yacht Club. The format is two-person, best ball.
