Voters, families invited to attend Candidates Picnic

All voters and their families are invited to a Candidates Picnic at 1 p.m. Aug. 12 on the lawn between Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Steamboat Springs Community Center. There will be free watermelon, drinks, popcorn and cookies. Take lunch and blankets.

Democratic candidates Diane Mitsch Bush, Mike Kerrigan, Gary Wall, Andy Gold and Steve Ludwig will speak and answer questions.

Steamboat Springs High School graduate Gaspar Perricone will represent gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter.

There also will be representatives from the John Salazar and Ken Gordon campaigns.

There will be games and prizes for children, as well as sack races with the candidates. The first 100 people to walk, skate, bike, car pool or bus to the event will receive coupons for free ice cream cones.

Newborn Network seeks volunteers for home visits

The Newborn Network is looking for volunteers to spend between two and four hours each month helping local families with newborn children.

Volunteers, at the request of interested families, will visit homes to provide information about community resources and child development, as well as give a gift bag to the family.
