New casual coffee meetings with Steamboat City Council members to start Friday

Coffee with Council dates
All meetings are held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on the third floor of the new academic center at Colorado Mountain College.
Steamboat Springs — Anyone who has a suggestion, a gripe, an idea, some praise or any other feedback for this city and its elected officials can share them with a Steamboat Springs City Council member in a casual setting Friday morning at Colorado Mountain College.
At 7:30 a.m., council member Scott Ford will host Steamboat’s first "Coffee with Council."
He hopes it’s a place community members will come to engage with their elected officials in an atmosphere that is more relaxed than a televised City Council meeting.
"I can’t help but think that at the end of the day, this helps serve everybody better," Ford told the Steamboat Today in March when he first pitched the idea to his fellow council members. "The dialogue and the give and take is healthy for everyone involved."
The Coffee with Council meetings will be held on the second Friday of every month and will be attended by no more than two council members at a time.
Ford, who is paying for the coffee and refreshments at the meetings, said it would run through Aug. 8 as a sort of four-month pilot program.
The casual coffee meetings are one of a few new ways the council members are working to have more communication with their constituents.
Following a facilitated retreat earlier this year, some council members have started to submit written reports in the agenda packets for the council meetings.
Members also have discussed the idea of starting to use more work sessions prior to meetings.
