Motorcycle, camera gear stolen Friday in Steamboat is recovered

— Police say the man who reported his $3,500 motorcycle and $16,500 worth of camera gear and personal belongings were stolen Friday in downtown Steamboat Springs has recovered the property.

The Denver man was a freelance photographer traveling as a spectator along the USA Pro Cycling Challenge route and had parked the motorcycle at Eighth Street and Lincoln Avenue during Friday’s downtown events.

Steamboat Springs Police Department Detective Dave Kleiber said Thursday that the man had contacted police and reported he had recovered the property. The man told police an acquaintance had taken the motorcycle.

“That was about as far as he wanted to go with it,” Kleiber said.

Police think a disagreement about something led the person to take the motorcycle, and the victim did not want to pursue criminal charges.
