The Yampa Ranger District requests comments on the environmental assessment for Morrison Creek Fuels Reduction Project.

The analysis area is located within the Morrison Creek drainage in Routt County, Colorado. The project is located Approximately 8 miles east of Yampa, CO. The legal location is as follows: all or parts of Township 2 North, Range 83 West, Sections 6, 7,17,18, 20,21,27,28; Township 2 North, Range 84 West, Sections 1,2,3; Township 3 North, Range 83 West, Section 31; Township 3 North, Range 84 West, Sections 20,28,29,33,34.

The purpose of this document is to determine whether or not to reduce hazardous fuels within Wildland/Urban Interface on federal lands identified in the analysis area. Proposed activities include:

  1. Salvage logging of beetle killed lodgepole pine,

  2. Hand felling of beetle killed lodgepole pine and

  3. Piling and burning of debris associated with above actions.

Comments may be mailed, faxed, e-mailed, hand-delivered, phoned in, or orally delivered to office staff weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., except holidays. Written comments must be postmarked by the Postal Service, e-mailed, faxed, or otherwise submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the 30th calendar day following publication of this Legal Notice in the Steamboat Pilot. Hand delivered comments must be time and date imprinted at the above address/office by the close of business on the 30th calendar day following publication of this Legal Notice in the Steamboat Pilot.

The publication date in the newspaper of record (Steamboat Pilot) is the exclusive means for calculating the comment period for this analysis. Those wishing to comment should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. The regulations prohibit extending the length of the comment period. It is the responsibility of persons providing comments to submit them by the close of the comment period. Please submit site-specific comments that can be used to further refine the proposed action.

Oral comments must be provided at the Responsible Official’s office during normal business hours via telephone 970-638-4516 or in person, or at an official agency function (i.e. public meeting) that is designed to elicit public comments.

Electronic comments must be submitted in a format such as an email message, plain text (.txt), rich text format (.rtf), or Word (.doc) to comments-rocky-mountain-medicine-bow-yampa@fs.fed.us. When submitting comments on the web, the SUBJECT LINE must be “Morrison Creek Fuels Reduction Project” to ensure proper routing. For electronically mailed comments, the sender should normally receive an automated electronic acknowledgment from the agency as confirmation of receipt. If the sender does not receive an automated acknowledgment of the receipt of the comments, it is the sender’s responsibility to ensure timely receipt by other means.

In cases where no identifiable name is attached to a comment, a verification of identity will be required for appeal eligibility. If using an electronic message, a scanned signature is one way to provide verification. Individuals and organizations wishing to be eligible to appeal must meet the information requirements of 36 CFR 215.6(a)(3).
