More than 11K overnight guests expected in Steamboat this weekend
March 1, 2012
Steamboat Springs — Weekend occupancy at Steamboat Springs lodging properties appears poised to stay on track with 2011 numbers this weekend, but midweek visitor numbers look to be down as the resort community heads into the home stretch of the 2011-12 ski season.
The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association's weekly lodging barometer forecasts 11,300 overnight visitors Saturday. That's up from the 10,700 predicted to stay in Steamboat lodging properties on the corresponding Saturday in March 2011. Accounting for late reservations and last-minute walk-ins, about 11,500 guests actually stayed in Steamboat on March 5, 2011.
Overnight visitor numbers dip to a forecast of 7,600 on Wednesday. That compares to the 9,000 guests who were expected to stay in Steamboat on the corresponding Wednesday in March 2011. Occupancy appears to get back on track next weekend, when 10,800 guests are expected here. The forecast was for 10,900 overnight guests on the same Saturday last season.
However, next weekend likely will be the last bigger tourist weekend of the season. Visitor numbers typically begin to decline after week 16 of the ski season.
Steamboat Ski Area closes for the season on Sunday, April 15.
