Middle school wrestlers come out on top

— Routt County middle schools wrestling teams came away with a heap of podium performances Saturday at the Carl Ramunno Invitational tournament at Steamboat Springs Middle School.

Steamboat Springs got a pair of first-place finishes at the event, both Lance Bryant at 120 pounds and Hayden Johnson at 140 pounds winning their brackets in a field that included wrestlers from 11 other schools.

Steamboat got a second-place finish from Spencer Mader, 100 pounds, third-place performances from Miles Buchan, 130 pounds, and R.J. Wilhelm, 135 pounds, while Hunter Thevdt, 90 pounds, and Evan Watson, 125, were both fourth.

Soroco was nearly as strong as Jace Logan won his division at 110 pounds. Dalton Ray was second at 135 and Sky Carlson second at 140. Gene Bricegridle was third at 75, and Jonathan Jerome fourth at 105.

Hayden, too, showed well, led by Derick Herfurth, who was second at 175 pounds. Garrett St. Clair, 95, and Lebo Armendariz, 285, were both third while Daylon Frentress, 85, Garrett Murphy, 95, and Hunter Planansky, 100, were all fourth.

Craig Middle School won the meet, ahead of Steamboat in second and Gypsum Creek in third. Hayden was fifth and Soroco seventh.
