Men OK after boat capsizes at Stagecoach Reservoir
June 2, 2012
Steamboat Springs — A windstorm at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday capsized a small fishing boat at Stagecoach Reservoir sending three men from the Denver area into the frigid water.
A nearby boat was able to rescue the men within about five minutes, Stagecoach State Park Senior Ranger Kathleen Fischer said.
"They were cold, but they were OK," she said.
The men were checked out by firefighters from Oak Creek Fire Protection District but none needed to go to the hospital.
Their boat later was towed to shore.
Fischer said capsizes are rare at the reservoir, with about one happening each year. She estimated the wind was blowing 7 to 14 miles per hour when the boat capsized.
"The winds that we get here catch some people by surprise," Fischer said.
