Martha Drake Young: Diatribe was off

Whatever editorial policy your paper has that permitted Rob Douglas’ diatribe against Kevin Nerney to be printed on the front page of the Steamboat Today (“Comment out of bounds,” Sept. 7) ought to be reconsidered and changed. Douglas took Kevin’s words and distorted them into a threat against two members of the City Council. Rather, Kevin’s intent seemed to me to be to point out how difficult it might be to get a timely response to a structure fire with an understaffed and underpaid fire department. At best, Douglas’ comments should have appeared in the blog for the article about firefighters’ pay being considered by council. Please reconsider any policies you have that allow such unjust personal attacks to appear on your front page as a legitimate news column.
