Man injured when horse kicks him in head

— Routt County Search and Rescue was summoned over the holiday weekend to help a 26-year old local man who was kicked in the head by a horse.

Travis Beddel was air-lifted Sunday evening to Columbia Swedish medical Center in Denver Where he was listed in good condition. He suffered massive injuries from the kick but is recovering nicely, hospital spokesman Davis Bawmann said.

The rescue occurred Sunday afternoon after parties with Beddel rode back down the trail from Dome Lake to notify authorities. Search and Rescue responded at 2:25 p.m.

The rescue was staged at Vista Verde Guest Ranch and rescuers rode the four mile trail to Dome Lake on horseback.

Dome Lake is just south of the Slavonia Trailhead, at the end of Seedhouse Road near Clark.

Beddel was conscious when rescuers arrived. But was bleeding extensively from his head, search and rescue director Joe Stevens said.

Beddel was taken to Routt Memorial before he was flown to Columbia Swedish.
