A Yampa man was in fair condition at Yampa Valley Medical Center on Sunday after a rollover accident Saturday night.

Daniel Kane, 44, was one of two men in a 1984 Ford truck, which lost control on a left-hand curve on Routt County Road 17 just north of Yampa.

The truck skidded off the road and then returned to the pavement, where it rolled once and came to rest in the middle of the roadway, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Melissa Remner said.

The accident occurred at about 10:30 p.m.

Kane, who may have been thrown from the vehicle, suffered a collapsed lung, fractures and other injuries. He was transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

The other man in the truck, 42-year-old Scott Williamson, was not injured.

Remner declined to say which man was driving the truck, which was severely damaged and had both doors and windows smashed out.

She suspects alcohol played a main role in the accident. Speed also may have been a factor.

The driver took a blood test, the results of which won’t be available for about two weeks, Remner said.

C.R. 17 was closed until about 3 a.m. Sunday.
