July 28, 2011
Steamboat Springs — A 53-year-old man vacationing in Steamboat Springs suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries when he crashed his bike on the Spring Creek Trail on Thursday afternoon.
Routt County Search and Rescue was paged to the scene at about 7 p.m., volunteer Darrel Levingston said. The man was somewhere between the fifth and sixth bridges on the popular trail that begins just north of Steamboat Springs High School.
Search and Rescue volunteers stabilized the man and transported him back to the trail head via an all-terrain vehicle, Levingston said. The man then was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center.
“He was in very good shape,” Levingston said about the man’s condition. The man was alert and conscious after the crash. Levingston wasn’t sure about the specific nature of the man’s injuries.
Nine Search and Rescue volunteers and a Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue paramedic participated in the operation.
