Lucas gets 2nd ace at Haymaker on Thursday
July 3, 2010
Steamboat Springs — It was a case of déjà vu for Oak Creek resident Tony Lucas on Thursday at Haymaker Golf Course in Steamboat Springs.
Lucas hit the second hole-in-one of his golfing career on No. 7, the same hole he aced in June 2003. Lucas used a pitching wedge for the 128-yard shot from the white tees. He said he watched the ball bounce on the green and then roll toward the pin.
The ace was one of three at the course since Wednesday.
"I don't know. I don't know if it ever really makes sense," Director of Golf Tom Taylor said. "It could be the pin placement, or the fact that we've been pretty busy this week. My guess is that we've just had a lot of lucky people out there."
Steamboat golfer Jim Yannaccone also netted his ace on the No. 7 hole on the same day. He used a 9-iron from the gold tees, which play 141 yards.
Barb Simms scored her first hole-in-one on No.17 on Wednesday during ladies day, using a seven wood.
"I hit the mound in front of the green and my ball bounced toward the hole before I lost sight of it," Simms said.
Simms said when the players got to the green, there were not enough balls. One of her friends looked in the hole and said "Bridgestone, anyone?" Simms knew immediately that it was her ball.
