Loretta Van Norstrand: Editorial right on
May 7, 2005
The Steamboat Pilot & Today’s editorial about the lengths the county commissioners will go to alienate citizens by keeping information from them was on target. Elected officials do not have permission to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to soothe their own wounded egos. County commissioners are public servants whose salaries and insurance benefits are paid by taxpayers and their actions should be accountable to taxpayers. Residents would like to have representative government and not be ruled by self-appointed kings and a queen.
Doug Monger calls his constituents “terrorists” because they dare to question his authority. This behavior is unacceptable and clearly shows his disdain for us. His comments immediately brought to mind another paranoid elected official, Richard Nixon, who thankfully was ousted from office.
Is there anyone willing to challenge Doug Monger in a recall effort? Is there someone who is willing to listen to citizens and respect them, someone who can work with the City Council and Routt County boards and commissions without demeaning them? If you are out there, I for one am ready to help.
