Lila Rider: Oak Creek/Phippsburg news for March 6
March 6, 2011
Steamboat Springs — The South Routt Elementary School students performed a dance routine called "Tinikling" under the supervision of physical education teacher Artie Weber. The students have been working very hard on the routine, and everyone had a great time.
The Grand Slammers bridge club met at Joann Lombardi's home Feb. 24. A delicious meal was served. The winners were Cindy Montgomery, Sharon Clementson, Mary Jane Logan, Rayline Olinger, Marcia Martin and Karen Craig.
Gerry Hinkle's daughters visited her, and Carole Rickman had family in to see her. Bettie Pierce had lunch with her son the other day. Darleen Cantrell had family in to visit with her, and Don Lufkin's daughter came in to see him. Tat Chan, who works in food service, had family visiting him from China. Phyllis Burrowes enjoyed a visit from Joann and Mary Lou Lombardi and Wayne Buntin. It's nice having Anna Wichern and Thelma Ideus back.
Thanks for all the jewelry, and we need more.
Joke of the week
I was shopping at the local supermarket where I selected: A half a gallon of 2 percent milk, carton of eggs, quart of orange juice, head of lettuce, 2-pound can of coffee and 1-pound package of bacon.
As I was unloading my items onto the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk behind me said, "You must be single."
I was intrigued by his intuition, since I had indeed not found Mr. Right. I looked at the six items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about my selections that could have tipped off the drunk to my marital status.
"How do you know that?" I said.
The drunk replied, "Cause you're ugly."
