Jim Swiggart: Thank you supporters

As Colorado Mountain College’s “Campaign to Sustain the Miracle on a Mountain” winds to a close, each of us involved and all of those who have benefited want to express our gratitude to the philanthropists who supported Lucy Bogue’s dream that is now the “new” CMC-Steamboat. The new student Academic Center on Woodchuck Hill truly is something in which each of us takes great pride.

Prior to this campaign, the largest single donation to the CMC-Steamboat Campus had been $40,000. Supporters of the Campaign to Sustain the Miracle on a Mountain contributed more than $2.1 million of the

$18 million building construction costs. TheAcademic Center is now being touted across the nation as both architecturally beautiful and highly functional. The new academic center is evidence of the visionary and “can-do” attitude that drives the Steamboat Springs community.

The physical rebirth of the campus, embodied in the new center, astonishes every visitor. The center’s welcoming lobby, the “state-of-the-art” Mac lab and the incredible views from the Neas Dining Center are but a few examples of the exceptional amenities to be found at our CMC. Members of the community and students alike have benefited from Wells Fargo’s Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center, the new auditorium named in honor of the Allbright Family and the Jayne and Ed Hill Wing housing the Alpine Bank Book Store. Our new restaurant and culinary management program supported by the Schoewe Culinary Classroom was possible now that CMC has a top quality culinary kitchen.

We would like to thank all who supported the campaign, but we extend a special thanks to Carol and Rick Dowden and Kathleen and Craig Wasserman who were our first campaign donors, and to generous donors Leslie and Bruce Allbri ght after whom the Allbright Family Auditorium is named. Gratitude is also due to Katie and Ryan Heckman who sponsored construction of the auditorium wing in honor of mentors and long-time CMC supporters Jayne and Ed Hill. Thank you also to Bere Neas and his father, Irlan, and mother, Jean, after whom the Neas Dining Center is named. And finally, everyone on campus owes a debt of gratitude to Arthur E. Anderson, the local CPA who began it all.

Steamboat Springs is a better place to live, work and learn thanks to the people who support Colorado Mountain College. I know that CMC is honored to be this community’s college.

People make Steamboat Springs a great place to live and learn. Now CMC is better positioned to become a “first choice” affordable collegiate experience for the young people of Steamboat and beyond. Thanks to many generous supporters, the college with its new academic center is better able to give back to the community and to “pay it forward” for generations to come.
