Jim ‘Moose’ Barrows: Time to give back
June 17, 2012
I am running for commissioner because I have a passion for the Yampa Valley, cultivated throughout 60 years of living the dream. I have experienced the legends of the country from the Conger Mesa in the south to Three Forks in the north. I am concerned about the direction of our legacy in the past decade and want to offer my energy and experience to guide our future.
I don't have all the answers, or even any answers, but I know as a commissioner I will be committed to preserving the personal property rights of all Routt County residents. I will promote fiscal conservancy and strive to keep our finances in the valley. Of all the candidates, I bring to the table a proven, extensive experience in all sectors of the Routt County lifestyle. The primary engine of our community is the skiing and tourism economy, which is reinforced by the "reality" of a legitimate community integrating agriculture, energy and education. During the past 50 years, I have been involved in all these sectors within the economic structure of the county. I will be a commissioner making sure the magic of this combination is sustained.
As a commissioner, I will have to take on the transportation infrastructure head on. I promise to utilize common sense and economic diligence in guiding our future and preserving our heritage.
Being a commissioner is not a job or a career. It is an opportunity for a native son to contribute back to and serve a community that has provided a means to enjoy the fruits of our incredibly unique valley, see and experience what the world has to offer, and call Routt County home.
Jim "Moose" Barrows is running for Routt County Commissioner District 1.
