Jim and Lynn Kelley: Countywide vote

— Now that City Council has approved a vote for Steamboat 700, the members must consider the decision flawed as they have left out the people most affected by the decision — those in the Steamboat II, Heritage Park and Silver Spur subdivisions. Most people in Old Town, the south valley and on the mountain don't even know we exist and mostly don't care. So the decision that affects us greatly has little impact on the people of Steamboat who get to vote.

Whether those of us who live west of town are for the development because we can have our own school and not bus kids for an hour each way, our own grocery store and perhaps nearby fire station among many other benefits, or whether we are against it because of increased traffic, property values, taxes or lack of services, we still deserve to have a say in the decision as long as council has chosen to allow a vote. We are not represented by this council, but we are affected by this important decision in so many ways.

Please, do not leave us out of the most important decision made in Steamboat for the next decade.
