Jewelry reported missing at YVMC
February 22, 2005
More than $9,000 worth of jewelry was reported missing at Yampa Valley Medical Center on Monday.
Steamboat Springs police Capt. Joel Rae said a 30-year-old Oak Creek woman, after undergoing surgery at the hospital, could not find a $5,500, one-karat diamond ring and matching wedding band, a $3,500 platinum ring with “love” spelled in diamonds and a $150 small sliver bracelet.
The woman placed the jewelry in a cup and then in a bag with other belongings when she went in for surgery at the beginning of the month. The woman was released from the hospital the next day, and the next day she noticed the jewelry was missing, Rae said.
The woman contacted the hospital’s lost and found about the jewelry, but nothing had been returned. The woman said her husband had been in possession of the plastic bag while she was in the hospital, but there had been brief periods when they had not been in control of her belongings, Rae said.
The police are investigating the incident.
