Informational meeting planned in Steamboat for Colorado Birding Trail

Steamboat Today

— The Colorado Birding Trail is spreading into Northwest Colorado, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife is inviting residents to a Steamboat meeting about its progress.

According to its website, the Colorado Birding Trail is a “major nature tourism initiative to promote non-consumptive outdoor recreation, conservation of resources by private landowners and a diversified income for rural economies.”

Along with Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory, Parks and Wildlife will host a gathering for residents and landowners to learn more about the trail at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at its Steamboat office, 925 Weiss Drive.

According to a news release, the southwest and southeast portions of the Colorado Birding Trail are complete. Work is under way on the northwest portion, with June as the expected completion date.

Local landowners still can participate in the trails and will receive information at the meeting.

“If you are a landowner looking for a way to diversify your property and share the excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities on your land, we invite you to attend,” Trina Romero, watchable wildlife coordinator for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, said in a news release. “Partnering with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory gives you a great opportunity to see how ecotourism benefits a landowner and wildlife.”

To attend the event, RSVP to Jeff Birek, with Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory, at 970-482-1707, ext. 25, or email jeff.birek@rmbo.org.
