Huck Finn Day draws big crowd

Warm weather made for perfect fishing conditions in Dry Creek during Huck Finn Day on Saturday.

About 66 children joined Colorado Division of Wildlife District Manger Jim Haskins in Hayden Town Park to learn about casting and fish handling. The DOW stocked the creek with trout and provided the children with fishing poles.

Angel Mendoza caught the longest fish and also the first fish among the boys. His trout was 10.5 inches long. The prize for the second longest fish went to Tanner Guire for his 9.5-inch catch. Ethan Mack’s 4.5-inch catch was the smallest fish for the boys.

Liz Morgan, Magen Swedberg and Kaitlyn Corriveau caught 9.5-inch fish, which were the longest trout among the girls. Liz Morgan also caught the first fish. The smallest fish prize went to Shelby Archuleta for her 4-inch trout.

Thomas Pederson won the Huck Finn lookalike contest and Kara Cousins looked the most like Becky Thatcher.

Rainbow Sporting Goods provided prizes and also donated bait for the event.
