Horseback riders called back after a dump and run: The Record for Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017

2:04 a.m. Steamboat Springs Police Department officers came across a bear a bear in the 400 block of Fifth Street. Police shot a bean bag at the bear to scare it off.

2:26 p.m. Officers were called to a report of graffiti in the bathroom at Howelsen Park.

2:36 p.m. Officers were called to a report of two horseback riders who did not stop to clean up the poop their horses had just left on the sidewalk in front of a restaurant in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue. The horseback riders went back and picked up the poop after they were contacted by police.

4 p.m. Officers were called to a report of people possibly sleeping at a storage unit on Copper Ridge.

4:07 p.m. Officers were called to a report of someone who stole $196 worth of merchandise from City Market. The person was gone when officers arrived.
