Hello Dave performs tonight at Steamboat’s Ghost Ranch

Steamboat Springs — Hello Dave is bringing its "Chicago twang" to Steamboat Springs tonight.
If you've never heard the band's music or are unfamiliar with its style, lead singer Mike Himebaugh explains.
"We don't play country music. We don't play rock 'n' roll, quite," he said. "It's an amalgamation we've come up with over the years. We didn't try to find it over the years. It found us."
Hello Dave performs at 8:45 p.m. today at Ghost Ranch Saloon. Tickets are $5 at the door.
The band has been refining "Chicago twang" throughout the past 15 years, since its formation at Eastern Illinois University, where Himebaugh earned a degree in zoology. Hello Dave's sixth album, which bears the name of their trademark style, was released earlier this year.
Hello Dave has performed all across the world — including on six of seven continents as part of USO Tours to entertain U.S. troops. Hello Dave returns to Steamboat, part of a three-city Colorado stop, after a five-year absence, Himebaugh said.
For Himebaugh, playing music is about making people happy.
Himebaugh said his musical style was influenced by the barbershop quartets he listened to growing up. He said that infectious, happy, feel-good, put-a-smile-on-your-face style comes through in Hello Dave.
Those who come out to the show can expect to hear some good stories, laugh and smile, Himebaugh said. That, he said, is the reaction he'll be looking for.
"I would hope they walk out with a big old grin on their face," he said.
